Updating Responsibility Map for Fraktio

Fraktio is a Finnish IT company specializing in designing and developing digital solutions for its clients while coaching experts in design and technology. As part of our Service Design course, our team was tasked with benchmarking responsibility practices of similar IT companies and analyzing how Fraktio could integrate responsibility more prominently into its operations. The goal was to identify how responsibility could become a unique selling point (USP) for the company. Ultimately, we conceptualized and visualized a revamped responsibility map for Fraktio to help communicate its commitment to responsibility more effectively.

Research and Benchmarking

The project began with extensive benchmarking. We analyzed the responsibility maps and practices of Fraktio and other Finnish IT companies to gather insights into what similar businesses were doing in the area of responsibility. This initial step provided a solid foundation for understanding industry standards and trends.

We also conducted a brainstorming session to explore what responsibility and competitiveness meant to each team member. During this exercise, we spent three minutes individually generating as many ideas as possible for specific points. We then compiled and categorized our thoughts, resulting in a clearer framework for analyzing actions and their alignment with responsibility.

Building on this, we revisited Fraktio’s existing responsibility map and conducted a comparative analysis of competitor websites. Our quick, candid observations helped us identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement, giving us a clearer understanding of where Fraktio could differentiate itself.

Environmental Responsibility Research

To add depth to our work, we conducted additional research on environmental responsibility in the IT sector. This included reviewing Fraktio’s carbon footprint report and benchmarking external resources such as Sitra and the Green ICT project. These insights allowed us to incorporate informed suggestions about Fraktio’s role in addressing environmental challenges in its industry.

Final Proposals and Roadmap

After synthesizing our findings, we prioritized the most impactful and actionable suggestions. While no single USP emerged, we focused on improving the communication of Fraktio’s responsibility initiatives. A key element of our work was visualizing a roadmap to make the responsibility map more engaging and user-friendly.

We emphasized the importance of clear and credible communication. Including references and criteria for responsibility claims adds transparency and builds trust with the audience, whether they are clients, partners, or stakeholders.

Challenges and Lessons Learned

The project was both fascinating and intense, given the tight four-day timeline. Working under such constraints required efficient teamwork and clear prioritization.

This was my first time working on a responsibility-focused project, and it taught me the importance of balancing creativity with research-driven solutions. It also deepened my understanding of how businesses can use responsibility as a competitive advantage.

Visualized version of the responsibility map

Our final deliverable was a revamped, visualized version of Fraktio’s responsibility map, designed to make the content more comprehensible for users. The visualization serves as a tool to enhance Fraktio’s credibility and communicate its responsibility goals more effectively.

This project highlighted the value of responsibility in shaping corporate identity and showed how design and communication can work hand in hand to support strategic goals.
